Re: PIANOTEQ VIDEO CONTEST 2017 - ENTRIES

Hi Keytar61.  Absolutely refreshing.  One of my brothers is quite a good jazz guitarist and he plays nice tasty chords like you are playing.  One thing, as  a pianist, I have envied is that notes on a guitar can be played at the same time further apart than can be played simultaneously on a piano ... and you have the expertise to take advantage of that with your nice chord structures.

Nice work.

About a month ago I wanted to wait for the 20€ coupon to buy the full version but I couldn't resist and bought it! Now I'm thinking whether to use it for the Gotrian or Blüthner!

My entry is an overdone piece but well.. wish I could go fancier than that!

All the best,

Here’s my entry for the contest! It’s an original composition with a nod to the Stranger Things 80s soundtrack vibe. I really love the sound of Pianoteq 6 and I enjoyed using it to make this. Good luck everyone!

I'm a fairly new player and my execution is pretty bad, but I wanted to participate!

I decided to try something different. I took a keyboard that can run on batteries, a Microsoft Surface and a little boom box to the park for the video.

I also recorded it in 360 degrees. You can drag the video to see all around the park!

Thanks Modartt for making such a great application!

Hi LTECpiano,
thank you so much for your kind comment, it is indeed great to have the possibility of playing a guitar with a very inspirational piano sound from Pianoteq 6 thus getting the best of both worlds.

@Lylo
Now I get it - I checked out the "moderately fast keyboard" for my live setup in Mainstage and it improved the natural feel of playability quite a lot. Merci beaucoup, je suis tres heureux:-).

@Naej

Nice and pleasant music! Special nice piano sound. And you created something new (as actually everyone here). As I see it in these contests, its of course also about being inventive, unusual, being good in a different way. So, all the best to all the wonderfully creative contestants with amazing entries, showing the potential of Ptq. And thank you, Naej.

Re: PIANOTEQ VIDEO CONTEST 2017 - ENTRIES

This is the entry for my son Evan, who is 14. In honor of Thelonious Monk's centennial, he played a combination of 4 Monk tunes and improvised on them. The tunes are In Walked Bud, Well You Needn't, Rhythm-A-Ning, and Blue Monk.

https://youtu.be/e0u0zixq6c4

The sound (Steinway D Jazz preset) was recorded along with the video on an iPhone 7; the audio was through a set of 2.1 computer speakers. It was recorded in a bit of a rush as my daughters were hosting a Halloween party which was about to start...

Pianoteq is just running on a little Surface Pro. It's kind of fun to have a completely portable setup that sounds good.

Now I just have to find a battery powered keyboard with weighted keys!

If the Surface Pro came with Linux preinstalled, I might buy one. If you stick with Bach and other Baroque composers you can just continue on with what you have.

This time I have made an alternative version of J. S. Bach's Little Prelude in E major, BWV 937. Over the actual composition played on harpsichord, I've played some accompaniment using Pianoteq's hand pan and clavinet.

Presets Used:
- Hand Pan - dreamy, hand played
- Clavinet D6 Auto-Wah
- C. Grimaldi Harpsichord A+B

I hope you like it... Purists out there, please don't scold me!

Good evening !

Once again so much variety in this contest !  Selection will be tough....
Here is my entry with yet a different style... hope you'll like it.
For the record, I was not sure which way to go until I heard the news a few days ago.
Without a doubt my fondest inspiration (and for many others I presume) in playing the piano passed away peacefully in New Orleans a week last Tuesday.
I was fortunate to see him live when I was a teenager and his performance blew me away. Got on the piano more than ever inspired by his entertaining style and his unforgettable smile.
It was then clear my contribution would be a tribute to him [with once again Pianoteq (6) delivering the good ;o)]

Was it difficult to learn to play your Seaboard? Did you have to learn to be more precise and not slide up/down the keys? Do you find the Seaboard's abilities useful as a piano player?  I'm fascinated by them.

Thanks,

Here is my entry to the Pianoteq video contest.

Sakura-Sakura Fantasy for Piano by Kozaburo Hirai (1910-2002). I first heard this piece when I was a child, when my parents bought me a set of piano cassette tapes (I still have them and treasure them); I was captivated ever since by this hauntingly beautiful melody.

Piano used is the I. Besendorfer piano from the Kremsegg Collection, a historical piano perfectly suited for the mood and style of this piece.

Thank you and I hope you enjoy watching it!

Some fascinating and very worthy entries appearing. Good luck to all contestants, and bravo to Modartt for providing us with such a superb range of instruments.

Hello everyone! Here is my entry! I am self-taught and after many years of inactivity I started practicing again in last December and I was planning to come back on youtube with probably the most difficult Chopin etude.  Vote to support . Enjoy!

I used the K2 Concert Recording BA with Piano Room 2 Reverb. I tend to love the K2 more than the Steinway D, but both sound very very nice. In the highs the K2 reminds me of the Fazioli sound and I a would very-very much like to see it coming to Pianoteq:).

Re: PIANOTEQ VIDEO CONTEST 2017 - ENTRIES

A new composition of mine, played using only PianoTeq Stage. Notice the pianissimo, high-end and pedal action featured in this performance, and how well this virtual instrument emulates those registers and features. I love the grandeur and smooth midrange sound of the D4 Cinematic preset which I only slightly modified for this piece; I feel it fits this moody piano piece perfectly.

https://youtu.be/zdMDUdfP6mA

I just realized that the contest rules state to use PianoTeq 6, so I downloaded the trial version and re-recorded this video. However, please note that in demo mode certain keys are disabled, so my melody is not fully realized in this video, and it’s only meant for comparison purposes of the improved Steinway D emulation in this newest version of PianoTeq (and to comply with the contest submission guidelines). I noted within the video where notes are missing. Please refer to the above video for the full melody.

Re: PIANOTEQ VIDEO CONTEST 2017 - ENTRIES

The 93rd Entry, a very late one to the party. I hope I am not too late at the publishing of this entry.

This is my performance of Frederic Chopin's Etude Op. 25 No. 12 or informally known as the Ocean Etude. Utilising Pianoteq 6 Std. (Settings at end of Video)

I would like to share personal experience on what prompted to pursue and study this piece, and add it to my repertoire, if I may. I hope you enjoy the read. I have copied it from my personal story on social media, and I hope it provides an insight into the value of human life, while also describing the change inflicted into altering my musical journey...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yesterday, I was at a beach with some family friends, as usually happens with many family and friends in the holiday season.
Up until when the incident occurred it was the usual session, as I usually experience events with family friends. Boring. I'm not a people person, neither am I a family person.

I was out swimming alone, when a strong current pulled me out. Being an average swimmer, I pulled myself out of it. But I was too late, to see one of my family friends children of around 9 Years get pulled into the current itself.

Without a second though, I went in, and held on to him as hard as I could. Having a moderate back problem didn't help me manage my and his weight, and we got pulled out quite far.. They say strong currents don't take you out far, but coming from a first hand experience, you never know. Him panicking in the situation would not have helped, as he did, and dragged us down into the deep blue for a little bit. At most what I did, I kept him afloat whilst trying to tread water myself. If a surfer didn't let us hold on to his board, him and me would be a pair of cold, unmoving bodies out in the Pacific Ocean a while ago. And at least one family and their community would be grief stricken with sorrow for their lifetimes.

I didn't realise how disastrous the consequences would have been to both my family and family friends, if me and him weren't alive today. he, of course a boy his age, would go back to normal pretty quick. But I had never experienced death that close, ever. Physically I mean. It felt almost.. serene..
I am still shaken from this experience. That feeling of not feeling the bottom with the life of a child in your hands even when I am a confident swimmer. I cannot say I saved his life. The surfer/lifesaver saved us both. But this incident made me realise that in the midst of any situation, when I don't have anything to lose, even though I'm a coward in most situations, that it's worth putting my life in the face of death to save a blossoming child, who has yet to experience a lifetime of happiness unlike me.

Never take for granted, the people who love you, care for you, and the people that would put your life before theirs, because those people will most definitely leave one day, and when you realise you took them for granted, it will be too late to see that the things you get granted in everyday life, material or not, will be taken away from you in one way or another.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
By no means do I intend for personal experience to obtain a competitive edge in a competition designed strictly to assess the {originality of the composition and/or the originality of the sound and/or the quality of the performance, with no specific priority between these three aspects}
I shared my personal experience to showcase how personal experience and your own efforts can lead to development in any field you choose, wether it be music or anything.

My personal experience reflects the chaos, the storm, the waves, and the deep blue I saw before me when I looked down with a child in my hands, but also the calm of the sea, the tranquil I felt, and in the end, the realisation of the impact it may have had, reciprocated through the Ocean Etude, through the passages of music. This is my experience. And my reason for pursuing this piece.

I hope you all can also convey your emotions and thoughts as effectively as you can through this wonderful instrument, as I listen through the entries, aided by technology such as Pianoteq, creating meaning through technology and prompting change, conveying how music is one of the most effective media to display one's humanity to others.

I thank MODDART & Pianoteq for creating such software, allowing us to enhance our musicality, with the technicality of physical modelling, ultimately much like how we balance our technicality with our musicality when we endeavour into our own journeys, and create our own legacy through music.

Technicality is as crucial as showcasing one's skill, in order to grasp the sing concepts, but pieces are learnt within one's own learning timeframe, but in the end, I believe musicality is ultimately what makes a piece, truly your own. A song for that matter.

I conclude by saying simply.. wishing the contestants the best at the same time..

"Music is enough for a lifetime, but a lifetime is never enough for music"

How to use Novation Circuit as a two channel midi looper and solo on an Arturia Keystep. This setup is completely mobile. It lets you take your noodling with you and bring joy wherever you go.
Recording is quantized in time *and* scale. You can change the scales after recording. This means you can instantly live-loop your own accompaniment.

Setup: Novation Circuit connected via USB to Mac, Arturia Keystep also via USB, but also connect midi out from keystep to circuit. Easier than to figure out how to get midi routing on Mac to work.

If you want to see me use some of my other apparent signs of G.A.S. on Pianoteq, drop a line in the comments. I am also open to suggestions of where to learn about chord progressions and solo-ing ;-)
All sounds generated by pianoteq 6.

Greetings, fellow keymashers, come and join me on this journey to a faraway land of mystery, suspense, monochromatic outfits and IKEA slippers. Me and my buddy, the bassist, developed this short composition from an idea originally intended for our band's upcoming single. Please do not let occasional disruptions in the spacetime continuum affect your listening pleasure; they are but inevitable side-effects of the elaborate cloning process used to create the drummer.

The title, 'Tajemství', is Czech for 'secret' or, as I prefer, 'arcanum'. As you head home late at night after an inspiring jam session and, having decided to get some fresh air rather than endure the shoves, smells and sweat of public transportation, end up strolling through the streets of old Prague, words such as those are sure to come to mind.

Hope you'll enjoy our contribution. Good night, and good luck.
